Extraction of shale oil process
Key words: shale oil; in-situ conversion processing; underground refinery; The process of ground extraction of oil shale, commonly known as “ artificial oil” 14 Jul 2009 Another big issue with oil shale extraction is water usage. The process requires as much as five barrels of water—for dust control, cooling and 3 depicts, in stepwise fashion, integrated processing methods of extracting a petroleum-based product from subsurface oil shale, in accordance with some analysis model, we show that production of over 15 million barrels of shale oil has brought the technology for processing oil shale up to the pilot plant stage,. For shale gas, hydraulic fracturing of a reservoir is the preferred stimulation method (see graphic below). This typically involves injecting pressurized fluids to stimulate or fracture shale formations and release the natural gas. Sand pumped in with the fluids (often water) helps to keep the fractures open.
When I talk to my friends and family about my job, I find that most of them don’t understand how the oil and natural gas extraction process works. Everyone talks about fracking, but that’s only one step of a larger process. Check out the seven steps of oil and natural gas extraction below: Shale oil processing is defined as an industrial process to which raw shale oil is subjected to extract oil from it—basically a process to produce unconventional oil [1]. Because shale oil exists as solid sedimentary rocks, its extraction is more complex than extraction of conventional oil [1]. In this process, oil shale is heated in the absence of oxygen until its kerogen decomposes into noncondensable flammable oil shale gas and condensable shale oil vapors. Oil shale gas and oil vapors are then accumulated and cooled, producing the shale oil to condense ( Koel, 1999; Qian et al., 2007 ). Oil shale is the rock from which shale oil is extract ed. Shale oil is similar to petroleum, and can be refined into many different substances, including diesel fuel, gasoline, and liquid petroleum gas ( LPG ). Companies can also refine shale oil to produce other commercial products, such as ammonia and sulfur. Unlike other fossil fuels, oil shale creates petroleum products by extracting oil out of shale deposits that are buried relatively close to the soil surface. With improving technology and better conversion processes, the world looks to be close to another oil shale boom.
Shale oil and gas are exactly the same product as oil and natural gas from conventional extraction. The difference is the source: conventional exploits reservoir,

Shale oil is extracted by pyrolysis, hydrogenation, or thermal dissolution of oil shale. The pyrolysis of the rock is performed in a retort, situated either above ground or within the rock formation itself. As of 2008, most oil shale industries perform the shale oil extraction process after the rock is mined,

Production of oil from oil shale has, historically, proven non-profitable, due as a petroleum substitute, but afford an opportunity to extract and process for high. In-situ processing allows for extraction of the shale oil by heating the shale directly underground on much longer timescales and lower temperatures technology available for the commercial production of shale oil – the Enefit280.
